Connecting with your target market?

March 3, 2015

Sometimes your campaign needs a boost.  Connecting with your brand’s target market takes on new formats and unusual partnerships may seem daunting. In the case of the BC Lung Association annual 2015 StairClimb the Sheraton Wall Centre we helped make some of the magic happen behind the scenes.

Hot after the release of Shaw’s Shomi services, we had the opportunity to pitch and spread awareness of the annual #StairClimb2015 in Vancouver. 48 Stories, tons of fire fighters make it out every year to raise awareness of COPDS.  What a great cause.

Go!Westcoast offered a public service announcement about the event as well Global had day of coverage.  This segment aired Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel in Vancouver. www.StairClimb.ca  http://shawtv.com.

Just Aquaponics, we promise

December 31, 2014

JustAquaponics is a great client and a fascinating case study.

As a very unique boutique business, they want to grow with the increased interest surrounding the California drought; water preservation has been a hot topic on everyone’s minds over the past few years.  There needed to be a shift in some strategies to educate their target audiences on aquaponics for two reasons: it is relatively new and there are some confusion surrounding the term ‘ponic.’

Oaked Communications provided strategic consultation and visual creative services to tighten up some of their marketing strategies.  Since the introduction of more simplified visual content in the form of infographics both digitally and in print, as well as tweaking their editorial, they have seen an increase of hosting 1 workshop a month for interested individuals in the area of symbiotic urban farming for conserving water.  This is an increase over previous years according to Aquaponics expert and owner David Sayson.

The environment and sustainable initiatives are part of Oaked Communications strategies.  Visual print collateral was made with the option of interchangeable information slots to allow for reusing the cards created.

Mainstay Oasis Bed and Breakfast

Mainstay Oasis Bed and Breakfast, a well known 4.5 star stay in Port Moody, the City of the Arts started in 2009 on the whim of soon to be empty nesters for two home owners on the Port Moody waterfront. With the Olympic bid for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics on the way, it was the perfect timing to live out their dream entering into a new chapter of life.

Oaked Communications has been involved in creating web content, online and print content, editorial, and publicity, and visuals on a start up budget.  When Mainstay decided to expand due to requests for their famous scone recipes into high tea party options, Oaked Communications coordinated a review with thev3H.com and a contest with the well loved VanCity Bride.  When they started to do private event rentals, she arranged to have a wedding photo shoot on site with Tri City Weddings.

Curated content since 2009 has been on the menu. Website design, creative content, editorial, event photography, photo shoot coordination have all been part of their portfolio bin.

While Barry and Mary Ellen take their own time to rest and relax around the world, Oaked Communications steps in and offers property management services for guests from all over the world.  Some day perhaps the queen will have high tea with them.

Real World Classroom

Real World Classroom

Real World Classroom

A super talented colleague of mine Nichole Van Sickle excels in teaching kids hands on lessons of real life in the classroom and teaches kids how to use credit, apply for their desks, pay for ‘water’ and ‘utilities’ and taxes while immersing them in a completely French environment.

Over a glass of wine we talked about how the media needed to be alerted to what she was up to.

What happened?

Real World Classroom came about. Her article made the front page of the BC Teacher’s Curriculum Magazine.  The rest is history.  Nichole now gets public speaking engagement requests for being a positive change agent. Not only that she has had opportunity to connect with key players within BC education.  Talk about a game changer.  Go get ’em Nichole.  Rather than complain you exemplify what it takes to instigate change.

Katherine Penfold & Hugh Laurie

September 16, 2014
Hugh Laurie & Katherine Penfold

Content sometimes comes in the form of content creative strategies.  I had the honour of helping Katherine Penfold a talented local Jazz artist fulfill her dream of playing a duet with Hugh Laurie.  Note: my role was creating a connection.
It started a little like this…

And ended up a little bit like this…October 7th 2013 at the Jazz Cellar.  If this wasn’t enough they also played a packed out impromptu jam session again at the Cellar at a later date when Hugh was in town shooting Tomorrowland.

I still haven’t gotten my end of the deal. Hugh was supposed to autograph a napkin or my arm or something.  It can’t be enough that I had the privilege to go through this exercise with two incredibly talented kindred spirits.
